    Event Location: Departs from Ramsey Student Center

    Hike through abundant high-elevation beauty at Roan Mountain, a series of five mountain summits on the Appalachian Trail near the NC / TN state line. With gorgeous views, lush forest and abundant wildflowers, the remarkable beauty of Roan's highlands, knobs and bluffs make for an exceptional backpacking adventure. We will hike by day and enjoy the night either in a wonderful barn which is a vestige of past times, or under the stars right outside. The stars here are some of the most beautiful we have seen. So, get ready to engage with the stars, flora, fauna, and geology of the region. We will talk a bit about camp craft and navigation on our adventure. We can’t wait to have you out for the trip!

  • Mt. Mitchell Backpacking

    Come on a journey with us through the great Pisgah National Forest in North Carolina! We will be hiking the Mount Mitchell trail, an 11 mile out and back trail. Mount Mitchell is the tallest peak east of the Mississippi River at 6,684’ above sea level. It’ll be an adventure you don’t want to miss!

  • Intro to Whitewater Kayaking

    Event Location: Departs from Ramsey Student Center

    Spend a day paddling on the beautiful Chattahoochee river and experience the thrill of whitewater kayaking! The Upper Hooch is a classic beginner kayaking stream with fun and safe whitewater that anyone can enjoy. The section we will be paddling is a 4 mile stretch filled with splashy rapids, gorgeous scenery, and lively river-faring wildlife. Along the way you’ll have the opportunity to learn and practice many paddling and river-reading techniques that will develop your kayaking skills and put you on track to become an awesome paddler! Whether you are new to the sport and eager to learn more, or just want to get away from hectic university life, come paddle with us! When you’re on the river and all you see around you are trees, sky, and whitewater, the rest of the world (including finals) feels very far away.
